the passionate beginner

“I’ve been obsessed with stop motion videos, but I have no idea where to even start.”

Right now, you’re:

  • saving every cute stop motion you see and wondering how they’re made

  • maybe on maternity leave, a student, tired of the 9 to 5 or just looking for a creative side hustle you can do from home

  • overwhelmed with the idea of learning a new skill, wishing someone would explain everything from scratch, step by step

You want to learn commercial stop motion as a new creative skill, so you can finally move from “this looks so cool” to “I can do this too.”

the creative professional

“I already create content for clients, but I want to offer more and charge more for my work.”

Right now, you’re:

  • a photographer, videographer or content creator who’s already comfortable with camera, light and styling

  • seeing brands book stop motion work and thinking you’re missing out on projects

  • trying to DIY stop motion, but not sure about timing, frame rates or how to polish it in post

You want to add commercial stop motion to your skills, so you can offer more to your clients and create product content that actually moves and stands out.

the small biz owner

“I want my brand visuals to feel special, but I don’t have a big production team.”

Right now, you’re:

  • running a product based business and doing a lot of your own content

  • tired of static photos that don’t really show the personality of your brand

  • wanting to create ads or videos that make people fall in love with your products

You want to learn how to create engaging, effective commercial stop motions for your brand, so your products stand out and your content finally looks the way it feels in your head.

what you'll need:

canon-eos-1300d-digitale-spiegelreflexka
camera

A simple DSLR or mirrorless is perfect, as long as it’s on Dragonframe’s supported camera list. The camera doesn’t have to be fancy – in stop motion, simpler is often better, and to prove it I’ll be using an older entry‑level Canon 1300D in the lessons, which still does the job beautifully.

tripod with horizontal arm

You’ll need a stable tripod with a horizontal arm so you can shoot both straight-on and overhead flatlay-style shots. This keeps your camera locked in place and your stop motion steady.

light

You’ll need a basic lighting setup with LED continuous lights to avoid flicker. Ideally 2 for more control, but you can absolutely get started with just 1.

laptop

You’ll need a laptop with at least 8 GB of RAM that can comfortably run both Dragonframe and After Effects, plus the necessary cables to connect your camera to your computer.

Dragonframe and After Effects

In this course you’ll work with Dragonframe and Adobe After Effects, which you’ll need to download and purchase separately. We’ll also dip into Lightroom for a color grading bonus, but that part is optional if you don’t have it.

other small items

You’ll need a few simple helpers like backdrops, tape, Blu Tack and similar small tools to support your stop motion setup. Don’t worry about figuring it all out now, you’ll get a clear list inside the course.

about me

Hey, I’m Kate, and I create commercial stop motions for brands. I've worked with brands like Unilever, Löwenanteil, Honest Catch and more.

I started as an ad agency copywriter, but fell in love with telling stories visually through stop motion.

If we’re going to spend the next 10 weeks together, it’s only fair you know who you’re learning from: I’m obsessed with good tea, love Korean food, passionate about jazz dance and yoga, and my favorite way to spend time is hanging out with my corgi, Rosie (she's objectively the cutest).

In this course I’ve put together everything I wish I’d had when I was starting out. My goal is for this course to be a warm, inspiring and genuinely practical experience that leaves you with a strong skill set and the confidence to create commercial stop motions on your own.
